Lennie Small is a mentally-challenged man who behaves very childish and doesn't comprehend his physical strength. He frequently gets himself into misfortune and counts on George Milton, practically his family member, to get him out of it. After Lennie ran into some trouble in Weed, the two fled to Soledad where there was an employment opportunity on a ranch. In the novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, Lennie encounters more trouble in Soledad and George ended up shooting him to liberate Lennie from his inevitable fate. George’s conduct of murdering Lennie can be seen as both justifiable and unethical. George’s actions can be described as justifiable for various reasons. They would not let him off the hook because of his mental disabilities, he still would have been reprimanded for his offense. In Weed Lennie scared a woman by grabbing onto her dress and not letting go. The men of Weed went after him requiring George and Lennie to flee. The latest trouble he got himself into was killing Curley’s wife in Soledad. Curley, the boss’ son, was after Lennie right off the bat because he was bigger than him. When Curley became aware of what occurred, he grew so angry and threatened Lennie’s life. “‘I’m gonna shoot the guts outa that big bastard myself, even if I only got one hand. I’m gonna get ‘im.’” (Steinbeck) George knew it had to be him to kill Lennie rather than Curley. He knew Lennie did not deserve the slow and painful death Curley would cause. Lennie Small’s mental disabilities also brought danger upon himself. George shared a story to Slim about how he once told Lennie to jump into the river, Lennie listened and almost drowned to death. He also proved to be a danger to himself when he failed to protect himself during the altercation with Curley. George had to tell him when to defend himself, and when Lennie listened he broke Curley’s hand, displaying
