His book, “When Healthcare Hurts” explains and answers the ways serving can affect those who need assistance if not trained appropriately. According to Greg Seager, “Right now many short term and long term medical teams may be doing more harm than good”(Seager, pg.xv.). Greg Seager would have told me my approach would be harmful and will create problems for the people I am serving. The way it would create a problem is the approach and mindset of the one being the aid. The people don’t need help but guidance of ways that will benefit them by using resources in their environment. This book has taught me different guidelines and prepared me for any missionary. Reading through the book, I found it gave protocols and taught me important aspects for the health care system. It mentions in the book how there are guidelines volunteers should follow to not over step and damage the people. Greg Seager gives explanations of the importance of knowing the environment and culture of the people. He makes the reader understand it is more than traveling and helping but being intentional.
