1. What were three of your favourite moments in the film? Why?
- The first moment I like during this movie is when Cole and Malcolm first meet in the church. Malcolm is a functioning member of living society, trying to help Cole overcome his inexplicable fears. However, Cole isn’t in trust with him, he doesn’t think that he will be able to help him. The close up shot of Cole examines his facial expression accentuating the fear, uncertainty, and helpless.
- The second moment I like during the movie is when there is an extension of the original kitchen cupboard scene. Suspense is created by drawing out the revelation of the ghost from Cole’s point of view. When Cole senses the ghost and walks toward the kitchen it cuts to his subjective point …show more content…

The middle part use various techniques in horror film, which develop the kind of fear and suspense. For the beginning and the end, the horror film techniques are not used effectively.

5. What were you favourite three shots or scenes in the film? Explain.
- Close up: The scene where Cole was scared in the bed, the close up shot of the character is light one side and dark on the other, this could connote the characters emotional portrayal in the scene. The shot type is quite up close and personal making us as an audience feel the sadness of the character.
- Wide shots: When Cole and Malcolm is at the church, a wide shot then zooms in at a low angle to the characters. The wide shot allows us to see the setting and the characters positions. These positions are important to get across the characters emotion/feelings to the audience.
- Eye Line Match: Eye line match allows us to be in the position of the character and see from their point of view. For example, the scene of in the classroom. Since it is at a lower angle the audience can feel that they are pupil in the class. The setting in a classroom sets a realistic narrative and the daylight is used to portray happier emotions in the …show more content…

As the film went on, there as a huge amount of close ups are presented. For instance, there is a scene where Cole was scared, and a close up of his face shows the emotion and the fear which really creates the suspense and build up tension. Since our genre is supernatural horror, one of the most useful camera shot is the close up. Horror movies use close up shots to heighten emotions, show possible importance of objects or people, create an atmosphere and make audience feel closer to increase fear.

7. What was your favourite use of sound in this film? Explain. Identify and explain two other moments of sound use.
The non-diegetic creepy background music, which is probably one of the most important features in a supernatural horror film. It is used to create a tense atmosphere as well as builds suspense and change the mood and emotion of a scene. Two other moments of sound use might be when there is a hallucination, which need the music to build the tension and the danger; and when Cole is approaching something that is scares him, the music plays a significant role of expressing the atmosphere.
