This video was all about exposing white privilege in our society today and how and why white people are still blind to it, as they have been throughout history. Systematic racism started near the beginning of our society, when poor white people and poor black people banded together to fight for justice against the elite white people, but the elite whites weren’t about to have that, so they told the poor white people that they had more in common with them, the elite whites, than their poor black peers, even though that was a complete lie. But that lie still permeates our society today. However, today that racism is less on an individual basis and more on a systematic basis, where everything from housing to healthcare to law enforcement is racist. As the lecturer in the video said, white privilege breeds white hubris, where we think that the world wants us to stick our fingers in everything and that we deserve to remake everything as we think it should be. This leads to gated communities, closed borders, and straight-up wars. White people don’t know how to step back and see the world from a minority’s perspective, and it leads to a lot of backwards laws and, ultimately, bloodshed. Plus, it direct resources away from where they need to be. White people are four times more likely to actually have drugs in their possession when searched and of the 125 family planning centers that were bombed in the last decade or so, nearly every single perpetrator was white. So, when our criminal justice system focuses on people of color, they’re not only racially profiling, they’re diverting attention away from the real problems.
