We are finally in Whitman Mission after a couple weeks of traveling. We were hoping and expecting to find an nice place to rest but instead find that it is deserted. We look around and see that there is only one other family here and many burnt down buildings. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders went to talk to the family and found out that a month before we got there the Cayuse Indians had attacked. They killed many people then burnt down the buildings. We keep going and decide, instead of stopping in Fort Vancouver we are going to go straight to Oregon City, because we want to start our new life already.
We left Whitman Mission and are heading to Oregon City. We have already struggled with shortage in food, we have had to go hunting more often on the trail. …show more content…

Hood then, finally to Oregon City. We are running really low on food and that is what’s causing my family to be sick. Many of the other families on our wagon train have at least two people sick right now. Our oxen are really tired and going really slow. We just reached a toll on Barlow Road, we don’t have the $2.50 that it costs for a wagon and a team. We offer the toll officer a dollar and an oxen, he accepts and now we have only fifty cents to make it the rest of the way to oregon.
We now are following the Barlow Road around Mt. Hood , it is a really rough road, it is really narrow and steep. The oxen are having a really hard time pulling the wagon up the steep hill, this is causing our oxen to go even slower than they were before. We are all exhausted and can’t wait till we get to our new home.
We are FINALLY in Oregon, we were on the Barlow Road for weeks but we are now home. After 2,000 miles we are finally home. We are all so excited to be done traveling daily and excited to start building our new home. The six month journey definitely longer and was very difficult but now we won’t have to worry about being short on supplies and can worry about starting our new life instead. Our family was blessed because we didn’t lose any of us along the way. We are so relieved that it is
