Character analysis

Atticus Finch is a wise and fair father. A description of his character would be almost the exact opposite of those who live in maycomb county. Atticus sees the world from a different perspective than most people. He sees the world without racial bias and prejudice. Atticus doesn't look at race he looks at what makes a person a person. This is how he found his job as a lawyer. Wanting to see the world become a better place, he took a job where he could make society fair.
Atticus was definitely the most unbiased person in the entirety of Maycomb county. The idea of defending a black man in court was such an alien idea to the citizens of Maycomb that they were offended by the action. "Lemme tell you somethin' now, Billy," a third said, "you know the court appointed him to defend this nigger." "Yeah, but Atticus aims to defend him. That's what I don't like about it." This shows that the people of Maycomb couldn’t accept That atticus was defending a black. Atticus didn’t care about this. He was assigned and he was going to do a good job of it. He gives his children advice to help them succeed in life. His children Scout, and Jem are very impressionable especially Scout considering her age. Atticus tells them “Courage is when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” This is in reference to Atticus’ trial of Tom Robinson. He wants his kids to know that in the society they live in not everything is accepted but you have to do what you need to anyways. Atticus has always wanted to make a change in Maycomb and if he can’t change the county’s thoughts he can at least let his kids know what's right. Atticus also said “You rarely win, but sometimes you do.” Again Atticus is trying to push the idea of never giving up to his Children.
