Research Question: In what ways did Betty Friedan’s book, “The Feminine Mystique” spark a movement in the second wave of feminism upon its release?
Hook: “The Feminine Mystique” has made an impact in American society since the 1960s, with its phenomenal breakthrough of gender roles for women.
Thesis: Betty Friedan’s novel “The Feminine Mystique” was able to bring out many changes within American society during the 1960’s due the release of her novel which changed the perspectives of others who would not bat an eye.
Main Points: improved the lives of many women in America during the era, brought out the injustices of housewives to the public light, and questioned society’s view of gender stereotypes

The rate of which many female students had dropped out of college to order to get married.
“60 percent dropped out of college to marry, or because they were afraid too much education would be a marriage bar.” (The Feminine Mystique)
Females were not able to get successful jobs due to the lack of education in order to get one.
“Fewer and fewer women were entering professional work. Leading to shortages on jobs such as teaching, nursing, and social work.”(The Feminine Mystique)
Main Point #2: Injustices of housewives and the dissatisfaction of their jobs in the family home
Many housewives felt like that they had no other meaning in life other than to take care of the family at home.
Lead them to be discouraged and in some cases have depression because of the lack of meaning.
Many women had done at least 55 hours of housework each week, were considered more like a keeper than a
