Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury takes the reader on journey to a dystopian society in the year 2053. The story takes place in a large nameless U.S. city. Fahrenheit 451 gives off dark and gloomy vibes throughout the span of the story. The main character in the story is Guy Montag. Montag is a 30 year old man. He is a firefighter and husband with no children. Montag is a very courageous and thoughtful man. He reads books and prefers them over the new wall-sized screen televisions. Montag is a protagonist in the story. He symbolizes what it means to stand up for what you believe in. “Happy! Of all the nonsense.”’. Clarisse McClellan is an energetic girl. She is a teenager who likes to read, think, and go on walks. She meets Montag on his usual walk home from work one day. Montag and Clarisse become close friends, but just days after she is murdered by a car for owning and reading books. ‘“Are you happy?”’. This quote she asks Montag makes him give deep thought for the first time. It basically starts Montag’s entire journey. Faber is an old, cowardly man. Faber met montag in a park a year prior to their second meeting. Faber, a former english professor, owns books as well. Not knowing her very well, her continuous talking and asking questions annoys Montag. He thinks she is just a curious teenage girl until she asks him the most challenging question in his life. “‘Are you happy?”’. This quote changes Montag’s life. He begins reading books and asking questions himself. He realizes he really is not happy. Montag then sets out on a journey to make himself happy. He runs away from his home after Clarise is killed. He meets Faber again, Faber guides Montag through his journey of happiness from the safety of his home. Montag wants to change the way the world
