Rhetorical Analysis: Taylor Swift “You Belong with Me” Taylor Swift is an American songwriter who is well known for her music that focuses mostly on love stories. She writes pop music about heartbreak, and making up. In the song “You belong to me” Taylor Swift sings a song about a typical teenage drama that a lot high school females may experience.
The character i portrayed was Hermia who was from a midsummers night dream by William Shakespeare. The first part of the play is when Hermia is stressed and furious. This is shown on page 3 when Hermia states “So will i grow,so live,so die my lord?”This is because her father wants her to either die or marry Demetrius who she’s not in love with,but Lysander, who she loves,comes up with a plan that will keep both of them far away from Demetrius. The 2nd part of the play is when Hermia begins confused, but then becomes jealous of Helena. This is displayed on page 36 when she says to her, “Get you gone!
Again they are deliriously in love because of the love drug. In the beginning of the play neither of the males want anything to do with Helena, she is blindly chasing after Demetrius desperate for his attention, but he brushes her off. Oberon orders puck to put the spell on Demetrius. “Thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments he hath on.” (II, i ln 42 & 43)
Hermia, much to her father 's dismay, is deeply in a mutual love with a different nobleman, Lysander. In addition, Hermia 's childhood best friend and Demetrius were in love prior to his sights turning towards Hermia. This crushed Helena, causing her to lose self-confidence, but still: she yearns for Demetrius 's love. Hermia and Lysander 's love, Egeus 's harsh rule, and Helena 's unrequited love for Demetrius causes the lovers to leave Athens.

I chose to do a rhetorical analysis on the music video “You Belong With Me” By Taylor Swift. This song is about Taylor Swift have a crush on this boy who is her best friend when she’s in high school. The boy she likes has this girlfriend who is nasty to him and doesn’t understand him like she does. Given away from the song title, Swift believe that her friend belongs with her. This music video uses both kairos and pathos throughout the music video to convey the song’s message.
Throughout history, men have always dominated. They never let a woman rise to power or have the same rights. This sexism has been ingrained in society for thousands of years, so much so that it has defined some of the most famous works of literature, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This play was written during the Elizabethan Era, an era in which a woman had all the power imaginable (Queen Elizabeth), and yet, women were still severely discriminated against. Women had no say whatsoever in their society; they were not allowed to vote and they had very few legal rights (Papp, Joseph, Kirkland).
In the play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Nick Bottom caught my attention. There’s three things that happened to him, He gets an Ass’s head, Titian falls in love with him, and he get transformed back. Oberon tells Punk to turn Bottom into a donkey. So Punk goes to their rehearsal and transforms him into a donkey’s head.
The strong effects of love makes Helena a bit foolish and blind in the ways she reacts to it. Growing up in a society obsessed with the concept of sappy love stories, it is easy to find flaws with the unrealisticness of such accounts of love. Songwriter Taylor Swift contributes to the popular trend of mainstream love stories in her own composition, “Love Story.” Throughout her song, Swift effectively incorporates the use of various figurative devices to relate her own love story with that of the famous Shakespearean lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Swift conveys the strength of her forbidden love, in similarity with that of Romeo and Juliet’s, through the use of metaphors, hyperboles, and allusions. First and foremost, Swift uses clear examples of metaphors throughout her song to maintain the resemblance of Romeo and Juliet’s love story with her own love story.
Aesthetically, she must be beautiful. Gallimard’s best friend verifies his search for such a woman when he reminds him that “all [his] life [he’s] waited for a beautiful girl who would lay down for [him],” though it becomes clear soon enough that even his search for someone beautiful stems from the potential advance of power. As the play progresses, Gallimard proves this by admitting that “all men want a beautiful woman, and the uglier the man, the greater the want.” His hunger for a beautiful woman derives not from his desire to be with her, but from his desire to establish his dominance above others who are also deemed as unworthy. Characters like Pinckney who are “not very good-looking, not too bright, and pretty much a wimp,” but remain the hero and get the girl with little to no effort whatsoever only fuel the creation of such a perfectly subservient woman that could have the pleasure of falling in love with him.

It is evident everywhere, from cyberspace to the streets of home, from online petitions to marches across the country such as the Women’s March. Today, men and women have equal rights, but that does not mean life has always been simple for both genders. When Shakespeare writes A Midsummer Night’s Dream, there are roles, behaviors, and expectations for the dominant men and submissive women. This literature portrays the major changes in the lives of both sexes throughout the years, which shows the advances women gain with time. The gender issue of men being dominant and women being submissive used in the drama, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, shows the differences in the roles, behaviors, and expectations appropriate for each gender and is an example of an outdated stereotype.
In William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream the circumstances surrounding love have been put into question, this occurs when a magical nectar is put in the eyes of three major characters, and changes their feelings towards the people in their lives. Titania, Lysander and Demetrius all have had the nectar put into their eyes, though Demetrius avoids having this done to him in act 2 scene 2 which is the scene that the focus of this paper will be looking at.
