Who Is Hester Virtuous In The Scarlet Letter

The book The Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and it is about a woman who had committed a sin in a Puritan town at a time when the United States had just been founded. Her name was Hester Prynne, she had a husband, no kids, or older relatives. She had thought her husband was dead so she had moved on in her life and had relations with the reverend of the town, well her husband wasn’t dead, and since he wasn’t and they hadn’t been divorced. Since the town was puritan the rules were that you would be punished for your sins, Hester was punished for her sins by having to wear the scarlet letter. In the Puritan times high morals meant you were for god and by god. She had committed adultery which is one of the most immoral sins a puritan could make. This was because it shows that she couldn’t control herself because she was too attracted to having sex.
In Proverbs 31:11 it states “The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain.” This can relate to The Scarlet Letter by stating she could betray her husband by doing him wrong somehow, in which Hester had cheated on her husband with another man.
Although Hester did commit sin, she didn’t let it stop her from doing good things and becoming a better person. Hester Prynne had made a lot for the people of the town from clothing to all kinds of small knitted wool objects. She often gave to the poor and gave nice garments to shops men to sell. In The Scarlet Letter after the second scaffolding scene when her Scarlet Letter becomes seen as Able and not Adulterer was because she had given to the poor and the needy. She never gave up on being the best person she could be no matter what. She always was one to step up when no one else
