Who Is Iago's Ambition In Othello

Shakespeare is a well known author who has written many plays. He has written many plays like Romeo and Juliet, Othello, and Hamlet. Othello is an african general who has come to Venice to lead the war. He falls in love with Senator Brabantio's daughter, Desdemona. Othello’s passion for Desdemona lead to the death of many and himself because he did not listen to her when she tried to explain that nothing happened, he was filled with so much hatred that he killed her and his passion lead him to acting in a rather foolish way. He did not want to listen to her because he felt that he she was cheating on her. When he says, “Ay, and for that thou diest” (Act 5, Scene 2, Line 45). In this quote, he has come so caught up in hatred that he refuses to listen to her. She continuously tells him that she has done nothing wrong, but he refuses to even listen to her because Iago is honest and always tells the truth. In the movie, he would not even look at her. He would be talking to her in the bedroom, but refused to hear her side of the story. He is filled with so much jealousy that he is not even willing to listen to her. When Othello and Iago were talking were talking before Othello gets jealous he says, “She did deceive her father, marrying you” (Act 3, Scene 3, Line 210). This was the beginning of the shift within Othello, we see that from this point he changes. He believes Iago almost immediately, after Iago told Othello this, he states, “Why, go to then.” (Act 3, Scene 3, Line 214). With this he basically tells Othello that she has done it before so why will she not do it again. If Othello had not acted so foolishly, many would have stayed alive.
