Is Lady Macbeth to blame for the murder of King Duncan? King Duncan was killed because of the Macbeths thirst for power. Lady Macbeth is more to blame for King Duncan’s death rather than Macbeth himself. She would use her body and her influence she had on him to help direct his decisions to the way she wanted things. Macbeth, at times, would feel some sort of remorse for killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth, never did. For example, before the murder had actually taken place there was a scene when Macbeth was talking to himself about the plan. He expressed that he felt bad, so Lady Macbeth began talking down to him, talking to him like he was less of a man. “It is too full o’th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way.” (2.2.25) This is Lady Macbeth telling Macbeth he isn't man enough to follow through with his plan to murder the king, in order to have all of his power. She then continued to say to him “ Thou wouldst be great, are not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it.” (2.2.26) Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth, basically, that he would be more of a man if he were more heartless. “ To know my deed, twere best not know myself.”(3.2.28) This quote shows Macbeth not wanting to think about his actions. “ My hands are of you color, but I shame to wear a heart so white. “ ( 3.2.27) Another quote showing the way that Lady Macbeth would speak to Macbeth, like he isn’t as strong or brave as she. What She was implying there was that she would be ashamed if she were anything like Macbeth, weak.
