The novel Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry depicts racism during the civil rights era in America. In the story, Mr. Granger views African American as being below white people's. According to Declaration of Independence, The Gettysburg Address, MLK jr's I Have a Dream Speech discrimination is not justified. First, The Declaration of Independence applies to all people and not just to Mr. Granger. For example, “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” (Dec. of Ind.). This shows that Mr. Granger’s rights are supposed to be the same rights that the logans' have. For example, this quote “A new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal” (Gettysburg Address). This Quote states that all men are created equal, not just white people. It also means that this nation is a nation with freedom and liberty to every man. Another quote is “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that because for which they gave the last full measure of devotion-- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not die in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from earth” (Gettysburg Address). This quote should be respected and applied to everyone and not just certain people to have their rights. It also says that people died so that we would be free and we still have racism and discrimination today. This speech was written a 154 years ago and 87 years before that was the civil war, but we still have racism, but no so much in America which is a step too have the whole world stop
