The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of boys from six to twelve stranded on a remote island after they were ambushed by enemy fighter planes. The boys tried to survive with the resources they could find on the island. When on the island, the boys had to overcome obstacles which made them become savages after being stranded for a long time. The once civilized boys slowly started to lose their morals and were slowly becoming reckless and savages over time. Ralph, one of the older boys, was considered the chief to set orders and maintain the group. Jack, one of the hunters and later became the leader of another tribe, was a hot head and would tend to lash out towards the younger boys and Piggy. Piggy was the smart one …show more content…
Ralph has many courageous acts throughout the book, he is always courageous when standing up to Jack about things they don’t agree on, such as when Jack went hunting and let the fire go out. Jack's job was to keep the fire going as there was always a possibility of getting rescued. Ralph's act of courage is when Jack came back from hunting and he “let the fire go out”(Golding 70). Ralph stood up for the fact that Jack had a job and disregarded it due to his passion for wanting to kill a pig and eat meat. At that moment they had a chance to get rescued as a ship was in the view of the island. Ralph and I relate to being courageous as we both stand up for things that are wrong and when important things are getting disregarded like the safety of others and myself. Another time when Ralph was courageous was when Jack started to convince the boys to join his tribe and had taken most of the boys to the other side of the island. Ralph stood his ground and remained to stick to his morals about being civilized. As the boys joined Jack's tribe, their appearance changed as well as their behaviour. The boys of Jack's tribe charged Piggy and Ralph at night stealing their things. Ralph knew it was “Jack and his hunters”(Golding 167). Ralph shows courage at this moment because he knew that Jack and his tribe would do such a thing based on their behaviour. Ralph’s …show more content…
He wants to keep things organized so that they could get rescued. Ralph is persistent in keeping the fire going. Keeping the fire lit was always a challenge as some boys would get distracted and let it die out. Day-to-day Ralph was lighting the fire as it was one of his main priorities for being rescued. Ralph was persistent that the fire keeps going and that Jack “didn’t ought to have let that fire out. [Jack] said that [Jack would] keep the fire going”(Golding 71). Ralph is disappointed as they had a chance to be saved but Jack let the fire go out. Ralph still being persistent about the fire, Ralph made Jack light the fire up again. Being persistent is key to accomplishing things, in the same way, Ralph and I are the same. We both are persistent to see results after we put in an insane amount of effort. Ralph is also persistent in keeping the group together and doing their tasks to get them rescued. Ralph establishes rules and helps the boys complete their tasks and pushes them to finish their tasks when they start to slack
