In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, we see and read about a character with the name Romeo. Romeo is seen to be impulsive and irresponsible from the get-go. His irresponsibility is shown when in act 1 scene 1, Romeo is talking to his cousin Benvolio about his new found love for only a day. Romeo throughout the tragedy is shown to fall very easily and fall very hard. The girl in question was a capulet and because of this it was very irresponsible of him to even question being in love with someone from families that hate each other. Another scene where Romeo acts on impulse is when he kills Tybalt in Act 3 Scene 1 because Tybalt killed Mercutio. When Romeo gets to Verona and hears about Mercutio's death, rage fills him and he decides to act on anger and impulse when he kills Tybalt. …show more content…

Benvolios appears in the play in the very first act and scene where he is talking to Lord and Lady Montegue about Romeo and how he is feeling down and depressed. Immediately, Benvolio asks why that is and becomes concerned for his dear cousin. After hearing this, he goes to talk to Romeo and find out why he is depressed. This act and scene demonstrates that Benvolio is a caring and thoughtful character in the play and puts others before him. In Act 1 scene 4 when Mercutio and Tybalt are going to fight, the only person who is trying to be logical and have reasoning is Benvolio. Benvolio tried to let everyone chill out and prevent a fight. In the end, Mercutio's rage got to him and Benvolo wasn't able to calm him down, leading to Tybalt's death.
