The Call Of the Wild is written Jack London. The adventuress novel was published in 1903. It takes place during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. The Klondike Gold rush was a migration of thousands of people in the search of gold. The Klondike Gold Rush took place in Canada. Along with these people were strong powerful dogs that were used to pull the sleds. With these dogs came some vicious and kind owners.

The main character in this novel is Buck which he is the protagonist. Buck is a strong courageous dog that is half Saint Bernard and half Scotch Sheepdog. He once was not a sled dog for the Klondike Gold Rush. He use to actually be a house dog that lived in Santa Clara Valley, California with his owner Judge Miller. Until one day Buck was stolen by the neighbor to be a sled dog. Once he is sold he gets moved from home to home, with different owners. John Thornton is a experienced gold hunter of the Klondike.He can be described as the protagonist also becau se he showed a lot of compassion towards Buck. Along with caring for Buck, and as the readers we would like John Thornton. These are traits of a protagonist. John Thornton is the man that owns Buck after Hal and Mercedes and Charles. He saved Buck 's life by preventing Hal from beating him to death. Buck rewards Thornton with strong loyalty. The two became really close.
