Growth Mindset In Jack London's Call Of The Wild

It’s the same thing that made Buck one of the best sled dogs ever, a Growth Mindset. Buck realizes that a growth mindset to survive and thrive in the new habitat of the Klondike region. Call of the Wild starts with introducing Buck, a mix breed between a St. Bernard and a Sheepdog. He lives on the wealthy estate of Judge Miller. Buck is soon sold into sled dogging and is sent to the Klondike region of Alaska and Canada. Also, when the narrator says, “Though his dignity was sorely hurt by thus being made a draught animal, he was too wise to rebel”, he means that he is not in “sun-kissed Santa Clara Valley” to make people do things anymore and he is not alpha anymore. One example of this is when Buck steals food, “A great uproar was raised, but he was unsuspected; while Dub, an awkward blunderer who was always getting caught, was punished for Buck’s misdeed”(Page 21). Buck has never stolen food before because he had got the perfect life at Judge Miller’s place. Buck used to be stuffed with food, but now he has very little food. This is a sign of thriving through a growth mindset because he is learning how to live life the real wild animals and now he does not have to depend on anyone. Also Buck was told to sleep in the snow and he couldn 't he scented “A whiff of warm air ascended to his nostrils, and there, curled up under the snow in a snug ball, lay Billee. He whined placatingly, squirmed and wriggled to show his good will and intentions, and even ventured, as a bribe for peace, to lick Buck’s face with his warm wet tongue”(Page 18). If Buck gave up and was very lazy, he would have died that night, but he kept searching for a better way to sleep which led him to Billee. Buck uses his growth mindset for thriving when he learns to sleep because he did not just give up. Without a growth mindset, Buck wouldn 't have been able to thrive well enough and he might even have died.
