CHARACTER LIST:
Hannah Baker – Hannah is the protagonist of the novel. She committed suicide for thirteen reason and thirteen people who were the cause if this reasons. She tell her stories on cassettes and sends them to the people on her list. The first person was to then pass it on to the next after he or she listened to the whole set of thirteen tapes. Hannah is ton down by the bullying and gossiping of her peers. By the time of her death, she is self-sabotaging, incredibly insecure and depressed.
Clay Jensen – Clay is the ninth person on the list. He is the narrator of the story along with Hannah Baker. As he listens to Hannah’s tapes, he describes his emotions, thoughts and reactions to her story. In the end, it turns …show more content…

This is considered betrayal. Time and time again she opened up to people, sharing secrets, inner thoughts and emotions. The first betrayal was made by Justin Foley, Hannah’s first kiss. Hannah describes how she placed so much significance and importance into that kiss. She imagined for days what it would be like to experience a kiss, and made herself emotionally vulnerable to Justin. Zach and Jessica, Hannah’s first friends in Crestmont High School, also betrayed her. Zach used Hannah to get revenge on Jessica and Jessica slapped Hannah, thus changing a former safe haven for Hannah into a place of pain. Though Hannah’s peers frequently betrayed her, she is not only a victim. She and Justin betrayed Jessica when they did not stop Bryce from raping her. Hannah’s culpability in Jessica’s rape weighed heavily on her consciousness, and is one of the reasons why she decided to commit suicide. Hannah’s betrayal also demonstrates that no one in Thirteen Reasons Why is completely innocent and safe from blame. All of the characters, even Hannah and Clay, play a role in the circumstances leading to Hannah’s
