A woman who smothered a dying fellow churchgoer with a pillow despite her victim’s opposition to euthanasia has been jailed for life with a minimum term of nine years for his murder. Cancer patient David Paterson, 81, was close to a natural death when he was suffocated by Heather Davidson, 54, in the bedroom of his care home in North Yorkshire on 11 February. About two hours earlier she had called Macmillan Cancer Support to ask whether smothering her friend would make her a murderer. She claimed it was a mercy killing, but she acted unilaterally without thinking about what Paterson wanted or the views of family and staff, Teesside crown court heard.
Sara Whobrey Professor McCrady English 102 24 January, 2023 The Psychopathy Behind the Columbine Killer, Eric Harris Psychopaths are people who are born unable to feel a strong emotion of humans, empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and feel for others and their feelings. Lack of empathy is only one trait of a psychopath. According to Crego and Widiger, the trait most attributed to psychopathy are antagonism, manipulativeness, dishonesty, and callousness. (Crego and Widiger 1.)
Jeffery Dahmer, Son of Sam, BTK, and Ted Bundy in their youths tortured and killed animals and had vivid fantasies of murder. For this post, the factors that caused Edmund Kemper to kill will be examined.
Their crimes almost always exhibit a certain element of sadism. Finally, the Power/Control killers, known as A Jekyll and Hyde killer who wants to totally dominate the victim, and plans crime in extreme detail. This killer derives pleasure and gratification from having control over the victim, and considered to be a ‘master’ at what he does. His motives are driven by the need for power and dominance over another human
When a person murders they know what they are doing and killing the teacher for the inarticulate reason that the
“The Making of a Serial Killer” by Berit Brogaard addresses the topic of why and how psychopaths behave the way they do. Brogaard defines a psychopath as, “A callous, exploitive individual with blunted emotions, impulsive inclinations and an inability to feel guilt or remorse.” Genetics, unusual brain connections, and social environments are among a few factors that affect these tendencies in psychopaths. Brogaard explains throughout the article that within the psychopath's mind, they lack social traits and emotional connections that the average human has. Although there are many different probable reasons behind these mental issues, Brogaard claims the causes of psychopathy still remains a mystery.
Murder is an unforgivable and unthinkable crime. On May of 1924, two young boys kidnapped and murdered 14 year old Bobby Franks by asphyxiation and repeated blunt force trauma to the head. It was a ruthless killing. Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb were the first known people to murder for thrill, causing nationwide terror during The Great Depression.
How does a serial killer’s mental illness cause them to kill?. I decided to do my research on “How does a serial killer’s mental illness cause them to kill?” because for the past 2 years i have been engrossed with crime tv shows. For instance, Criminal Minds has had cases where the serial killers have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Shows where i can be able to think throughout , and be part of the investigators research of why the serial killer intended to kill gets me thrilled.
The motives they use are obscure and absolutely puzzling. Mentality is an important roll to focus on when dealing with a criminal. Most killers suffer with a form of a mental illness such as: personality disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, lunacy, deranged, and more. A mental illness impairs parts of the mind from functioning normally. Not all killers suffer with a disorder but many do.
Another reason people murder is related to gang violence. Gang leaders try to recruit people who are willing to do anything for the gang. Young people join gang to get a self-purpose, and a respect from other friends. When gangs have confrontations with each other, they try to kill one another. This can be due to turf disputes, revenge of a fallen gang member, or reputation build up.
Motivations for multiple murder, according to Fox and Levin, are power, revenge, loyalty, profit, and terror. Several cases of serial murder seem to derive from need to have control over a victim and gain a certain control over them. Power motivated killings tend to entice serial killers because of the thrill the kill gives them. This type of motivation compares to the control and mission-oriented origins stated by Dr. Dalal. Although most cases of power motivated murders are based solely around sexual acts, a significant number of homicides are based around “playing God” (Fox and Levin 21).
First one reason people have the urge to kill another human is simply to get back at them. In the movie Patriot, Mel Gibson watch his son get murder in front of him, and he couldn’t do anything about it during the situation he was in. He had to wait until end of the war to get revenge for his son’s death. People always find it
It could be some reactions to their problems. Psychological issues are including mental illness, stress, and other things. For example, a person who raised without a father for some reason or lost one of the family member or any other reason may use their pain to hurt others too. Probably they wanted others to feel the same way they did or even they tried to squeeze themselves at some point, not forgetting to mention that is something in their brain. According to the article that titled "What Would We Find Wrong in the Brain of a Serial Killer?" by Jack Pemment.
An inconceivable event or a dominant figure has elicited these deadly urges and murderous emotions within the individual (Innes 6). Therefore, the creation of serial killers is not only due to their genetic makeup but also due to their upbringing and traumatic experiences; serial killers are influenced by both nature and nurture. They are a product of the environment that surrounds
Mass murders set out to kill a large number of people, typically at the same time in a single location. More often than not, mass murders are killed themselves by either law enforcement or self inflicted wounds. Turvey discusses five categories of motivation that apply to mass murders, they include motivations of power, revenge, loyalty, terror and profit (2012). The power-oriented mass killer thrives on power and control.
