In the story of The Great Gatsby, people might have different opinions on who is to blame for the downfall of Gatsby. My belief is that Gatsby himself is to blame for his own fall. The first thing that Gatsby did to jeopardize his fall was moving across the bay, where he always had an eyes view of Daisy. Then the next thing that he did was not respecting the fact the Daisy and Tom were married and had a child together. The final thing that he did was trying to cover for Daisy and not telling the truth about what actually happened after the accident with Myrtle.
Gatsby has himself to blame when it comes down to his fall. The first reason I have for my belief is that Gatsby should not have moved so close to Daisy’s house.

Doing this he put himself in position to either get arrested or in this case shot. Back to my last reason if he would’ve just left Daisy and
Tom be, Tom would not of had the urge to tell the George Wilson details about the car,
“That yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasn’t mine you hear.”, “It was a yellow car”(Fitzgerald 140). Therefore covering for Daisy, George knew exactly who’s car it was. Gatsby’s, and now George wants his revenge on him. George breaks into Gatsby’s house while he was in the pool and shot him multiple time until died, then shoots himself.
So if Gatsby would had been honest, he would not have been shot that day.
There are many different ways you can look at the downfall of Gatsby’s life and the best one there is, is Gatsby himself. He started off wrong by moving so close to Daisy that he could see her from across the bay. Then he gave no respect to Tom and Daisy’s marriage, which didn’t help him out in the long run. Finally by not telling the truth and covering for Daisy is the main reason why his downfall is on himself. Given these few examples about why I think Gatsby’s downfall should be blamed on himself, who do you think was the blame for Gatsby’s downfall?
