This affected Troy by him never believing that there was good in the world and that everything was evil. This is why Troy was so angry and always in a bad mood because this is what his father showed him.

“But I’ll say this for him... he felt a responsibility toward us.” Troy’s father never showed any time of love, but he did show responsibility. He didn't show emotions of love but he knew that he had a responsibility to take care and provide for his family and because of this Troy acted the same. He showed Cory that he didn't need to like him because he was his father, it was that Cory was his job and his responsibility. “It’s my job. It’s my responsibility! You understand that! A man got to take care of his family.”

“Rose, I done tried all my life to live decent....clean....to live a useful life. Maybe I come into the world backwards.” Troy life was so hard when he was with his father. His father was so hard and evil on him that it affect him mentally. Troy blamed himself for his mistake on cheating on Rose. He tried to tell her that Rose had nothing to do with it and that she was the best women anyone could have. “Rose you ain’t the blame. A man couldn't ask for no women to be a better wife than you’ve been.” He accept his wrong doing my taking the blame and believing that he wasn't meant for Rose, that he was born into the world backwards, and that he had to stop lying to himself that his life was decent and useful because it
