When the witches say “ By pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.” (Act 4. Sc 1. Line 44-45).They are referring to Macbeth. Macbeth is truly evil and the witches know this, it just took someone to awaken that evil.
By the end of the play, there is no doubt that Macbeth would die because Shakespeare hinted this along the play. Although it would have been expected to see Macbeth’s end, his death, just like King Duncan’s and Queen Macbeth’s is not shown. This is due to the fact that during the Elizabethan rule, in which Shakespeare live through, it would have been considered an insult to a ruler. Thereafter, presenting the death of Macbeth, even though he did obstruct the system, was not worth the risk of having the royals not like him. It all started when Macbeth received a prophecy from the three witches saying that he would be made Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. Later, on he had dinner with King Duncan at his castle and that same night he writes to Lady Macbeth to tell her all that has happened. After telling his wife all that has happened, she tries to persuade him into killing the King. Their plan was to get the guards really drunk so that they blacked out and wouldn’t remember anything and then go in for the kill. While the king is asleep, Macbeth sneaks into the king’s room and stabs him, despite all the blood on the dagger and his hands and all the consequences that would come with it.

From honored soldier to murderous tyrant, Macbeth killed his way into power. He was informed of his “destiny” and stopped at nothing to achieve it. He had multiple chances to rethink his actions. He didn 't however, he kept on his march to power leaving only himself to blame. Macbeth is the only one to blame for his actions and ultimately, his death.
However Lady Macbeth makes it absolutely clear that if he is brave enough, it is impossible to fail. These quotes show how Lady Macbeth is controlling her husband and she proves herself be the most responsible of Duncan’s death. Some people may say that three witches are the most responsible of the death of Duncan. Macbeth never considered murdering king Duncan until he saw the prophecies of the witches.
