People believe that Romeo and Juliet’s deaths had been caused by their old family feud. As that may be true, that is not the whole truth of what really happened. This all went down in William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, where two teens of enemies fall in love, and take their own lives for each other. In reality, it had all been a misunderstanding. Romeo and Juliet are partially responsible for their own deaths as they acted too quickly, but their families feuding, and Friar Laurence’s interference had also caused their deaths. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet contributed to their deaths as they acted too hastily on events that had led up to their deaths. This is evident when Juliet could not mourn for Romeo’s banishment, but had to mourn for Tybalt’s death in front of her parents. Juliet’s mother says,”Well, girl, thou weep’st not so much for his death, as the villain lives which slaughter’d him”(3,5,79-80) when she finds Juliet in her room crying, Lady Capulet believes that Juliet is crying over the fact that Romeo lives while her cousin is dead. Now if the feud had not been going on, then Juliet would have been able to mourn freely, and her mother could have comforted her as opposed to insulting her husband. This is also shown when Tybalt’s death occurs. Romeo had just gotten married to his family’s enemy, Juliet Capulet, and was not aware that Tybalt had challenged him to a fight. So, up until Mercutio’s death, he did not want revenge on Tybalt, but, now he does. Romeo says,”Away to heaven, respective lenity..., Now, Tybalt, take the villain back again.”(3,1,122-124) when Tybalt comes back after he kills Mercutio. Now, this supports how the family feud had gotten in the way of how Romeo and Juliet’s relationship. Tybalt had provoked Romeo to “kill” him when he had killed Mercutio, and made a joke about it later. That is how Romeo and Juliet’s demise had been partially at the hands of their families
