Many people could be held responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death, but who is really the most responsible? Romeo and Juliet is a famous play written by Shakespeare. This romantic tragedy is full of twists and turns, that make you wonder who is responsible for the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Many people played a part in this ending, but there is one character who is the most responsible. Romeo is the character most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because he chose to find Juliet after the party, killed Tybalt upon his own choice, and chose to kill himself in the end. In Act 3, Tybalt seeks to kill Romeo, but Romeo won’t fight. Instead, Mercutio and Tybalt fight which ends in the death of Mercutio. This event upsets Romeo. He says, “Alive in triumph—and Mercutio slain! Away to heaven, respective lenity, and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now. Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again that late thou gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul is but a little way above our heads, staying for thine to keep him company. Either thou or I, or both, must go with him.” Romeo challenges Tybalt to a fight because of Mercutio's death. Romeo could have walked away from Tybalt, but chose to fight him instead. This ended in the death of Tybalt. As a result of their fight, Romeo was banished from Verona. This event led to many other factors that were linked to the tragic ending. Romeo could have avoided being banished, but chose to make the decision with severe consequences. Tybalt may have started the fight, but it was Romeo’s decision whether or not he
