All dogs have their own personalities and needs. However all dogs need certain types of vitamins, nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and ingredients in their foods to keep them happy and healthy. Each animal owner also needs to feel that their animal is getting all the best things they need in their diets. Like us, if we are couch potatoes we need different foods than the active people that run 5 miles a day to keep us as healthy as possible, dogs are the same way. Frankly any diet your dog does not thrive on is a bad choice. However the best choice of food for your adult dog depends solely on your adult dog. The best way to know what is best for your dog would be a food trial, where you try each different type of food and see what your dog thrives on. Nutritionally the best option would be home-prepared food (prepared by following AAFCO’s standards) or things added into your dogs food to make up for the things not added by the food companies. The BARF system does not seem like a very good choice to feed your domesticated dog due to the many negative affects it may have. However kibble alone may not have all the things your dog needs in their diet either.
