Having a dress code is incredibly important in many lines of work. Dress code is defined as a set of rules about what clothing may or may not be worn in a certain setting. Dress codes have been used in schools and businesses for a long time. Having these standards is important for many reasons. Some jobs require certain clothes to be worn for safety reasons. In other professions it is required so that all employees look professional and official. It can also be used as a way to identify employees. Having a dress code assists in a business and its employees looking experienced. When workers look their best while interacting with clients, it leaves a good impression and makes them more likely to choose that company. Some jobs that may use a formal dress code include lawyers, bankers, and real estate agents. These jobs typically require men to wear a suit and tie and women to wear a dress and makeup. Dress code can also be used as a means to identify employees. Having a company uniform makes it easier for customers to find employees so that they can get assistance. For example, Walmart requires their employees to wear a blue vest and a name badge in order to make them easily identifiable. Without these uniforms, it would be hard for consumers to find workers to get the help they need. As a result, this could lose the company money over a situation that could have been avoided. Some people could argue that dress codes can be expensive. In the case of dress codes for safety, clothing items like steel toed boots can cost hundreds of dollars for a single pair. On the business attire side, suits and dresses get extremely expensive. Both can go for hundreds of dollars and an employee needs to have quite a few clothing options.
