Botany was Important in Ancient Greece It has been a necessity to understand what plants can be used for since the beginning of time. Whether that be to know what plants could be consumed and those that should be avoided, what plant can heal ailments, or even what plants can be used to worshiped and be closer with the gods. Ancient Greece is no exception to these and were even one of the first people, that we know of, to write about plants and their properties. It was essential in this time period to know what plants you were using, especially for food. Different plants were grown depending on what they were going to be used for and who was going to consume the food. Who consumed the food depended significantly on social status. Plants were also very important when it came to the creation of medicines. Physicians had to understand which plants and what part of the plants had medicinal properties so that they could give them to their patients. Religiously plants were used to get closer to the gods or to have religious experiences by communicating with them. It provided useful for food, knowing which plants we able to be consumbed and those that were not as well as who was capable of eating certain foods. Botany was also used to enlighten people on how plants can be used in medicinal ways and what kinds of food a person ate could be beneficial or harmful. Plants were often used in religious rituals and allowed people to enhance their feelings and followings of the gods. Overall, Botany was useful in multiple different ways to the people of ancient Greece and writings from this time help us to understand their thought process and what they believed what important even if primary sources cannot be exclusively relied
