Ancient Rome was considered as one of the most influential civilizations throughout the years. Eventually, the Roman civilization came to an end, leaving many legacies behind, especially in Western culture. Ancient Rome came to an end due to various internal and external factors that affected their civilization. In 312 AD, he entered Rome as the new emperor of the Western empire, then taking control of the Eastern empire in 324 AD. The cities in the Western empire were smaller and less prosperous and with the geographical location, it was located farther away from trade routes that provided goods and wealth. The Western cities were more exposed to attacks from invaders, who were the Barbarians. The Barbarians were people who looked for goods and citizens to kidnap who would them be sold as slaves. As the Barbarians were getting stronger, defense forces on the north and northeast borders became weaker. This benefitted the Nomads as they took advantage of the weakness and attacked Roman towns and cities. In order to respond to threats made by the Nomads, the Roman empire needed to expand their armies. They decided to hire foreign mercenaries who were committed to only an individual military leader and were not loyal to the empire. They were not disciplined and was less effective, which made the defense weak along the empire’s borders. Therefore, military problems were the cause of the downfall of the Roman civilization.
Social and political factors, economical problems and military problems were the cause of the downfall of Ancient Rome. Various internal and external factors had affected the Ancient Rome civilization creating an instability within themselves. Therefore, they became more vulnerable.
