Andrew Jacksons’ parents immigrated from Ireland to the harsh Carolina frontiers in the 1760s.They came to the states so they could escape the poverty in Ireland, but it turned out to be equally as hard for them here. Jackson was never able to meet his father because he died while his mother was pregnant, that left him with his mom and his two older brothers to fend for themselves. Andrew Jackson grew up in a harsh environment where you had to fend for yourself because of the recurring threats of violence. During the war against the British one of Jacksons brothers died of heat stroke while in battle and the other brother and his mother died of disease. He gained national fame after winning the Battle of New Orleans. Later on in his life Jackson earned the nickname "Old Hickory” because he was a good solider that possessed both good sense and toughness, but was also ruthless, killing soldiers that deserted their posts and he felt Indians where inferior people. He was a war hero I'm everyones eyes. When he went to run for president in 1824, he lost to John Quincy Adams, but won in 1828 and soon after the whole county could out he had a then-adulterous relationship with his wife Rachel. And this news was allover newspapers, say she was a shameless woman and how can someone like her be in the white house. In retaliation Jackson stared making up lies about Adams saying he was also an adulator. Just after he became president Rachel she had a heart attack and died. People where esthetic when Jackson became
