He bought himself into war with help from his mother. He had help from his mother because he gambled most of his inheritance from his father’s death in a little over a year. Even though he barely got into the war, because of his early life it caused him to join the war, affected his role in battle ,and his life after the war because of his gambling problem Banastre grew up like any other british child, but soon became a hated general. Esther Pavao states that Banastre Tarleton was born in Liverpool, England. On August 21, 1754. He was the fourth child out of seven born to John and Jane Tarleton. John, Banastre’s father, was a successful merchant, slave trader, and boat owner. In the text, Lieutenant Colonel, states that “At the University College, Oxford, he studied toward a law degree but was better known for his athletic abilities, participating in cricket, boxing, riding, and tennis. Banastre joined the war because his father death. Janie Cheaney says, that he inherited 5,000 pounds of silver, but gambled most of it away in a little over a year. Cheaney also states, that with the help from his mother he was able to buy his way into the dragoon guards for 800 pounds. In the text, Lieutenant Colonel points out, how he also wanted opportunities and advancement. So he joined the Revolutionary war on the British side and had a big role in
