Also, Memphis was illegally transporting Rose's younger brother to the Memphis basketball games even though it was against the NCAA's rules. This is a good example of how the NCAA has not given “full” punishments to their
They are manipulating them. They lack seeing these players with dignity, due to the fact that they are offering them capital to have the ability to use them as they like. These coaches and advisors fail to acknowledge these basketball players as autonomous and rational human beings. People are capable of making rational decisions, and by offering bribes you're disrespecting their ability to do so. Acting in such a way that everyone in that situation will do the same as you did, is another categorical imperative.
Person would not agree with his actions if he wasn’t one of the people receiving these cash payments because he would be compelled to look at the immoral aspects of his actions and the trust he shattered with his players. These NBA-bound players have the brightest futures ahead of them and are looking to their superiors for guidance. If Person were to turn the circumstances on himself and remember the time he entered the NBA, he would be enraged if his success and talent was taken for granted in order for his coach to make a little extra cash. He should’ve reflected on this situation when choosing to accept the payments and participate in these immoral acts. Person’s lack of a moral compass and his inability to differentiate between right and wrong has been the main cause of his decline as a leader and a
According to Nick Baumgardner of MLive, in 1996 there was an allegation that a booster named Ed Martin gave players money, an investigation started and as the investigation progressed they found out that Ed Martin had given Chris Webber $100,000 before he had even committed to the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan had to vacate the National Championship appearance that was during the “Fab Five’s” freshman season and the “Fab Five’s” entire sophomore year due to Ed Martin paying players while they were attending the University of Michigan. I believe all this could have been prevented if we paid college athletes as they should because Jalen Rose who was a member of the “Fab Five” said, “ “I felt like a professional athlete who wasn’t getting paid.” Think about that he was that popular but didn’t earn a $1 from it.
" This quote proves that the students are bringing in lots of money and the school has plenty to give. College athletes should be paid because they contribute to the school revenues. When it comes to getting fans in the arena it all happens because of the stars coming out of the locker room. Student athletes can be looked at as advertisement because they persuade people to come watch their skills.
The NCAA says that they don’t want to pay college athletes because of their scholarships. As the money keeps flowing more and more each and every year, it comes with more arguments about the athletes getting the money that they deserve. Sounds as if college athletes are blindly signing a sheet of paper and the NCAA has an evil smirk saying “You have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into”. A court case had also gone down about a young college athlete and a car dealership. The dealership was using the athletes to make more sales with his cars and was doing behind the athletes back without
So I do feel bad about the whole thing. “ the only reason he received a failing grade was that he refused to study and he didn’t try his best on tests. A final reason is that colleges look for students with higher GPAs. In an article titled “Students Should Have Good Grades to Play Sports,” it is said, “The NCAA, or National Collegiate Athletic Association, will not allow students to play sports unless they meet the required GPA and standardized test score.” Therefore this decision was justifiable and it was backed up with reasons and
We see people getting hate mail, getting it told to their faces, and behind closed doors. When the coach found out his family was getting death threats and hate male he could have easily just been like I can't take this and bench the black kids but it took courage to keep the black kids playing. Also, the kids get yelled at and beaten they could have gone home and went back to work but what good would that have done. As you can see this team and people related to this team went to hell and back cause they had a minority of white boys. They had to have courage from the very first game to the national championship game.
One of the best college basketball Mike Krzyzewski agrees with high school players entering the NBA right out of high school. " A kid who's really, really good coming out of high school, who does not want to go to school, would gain more from being in a pro system where he is working on his craft and his body and the development everyday”(Daniels,2). The fact that a future Hall of Fame collage coach said that should mean a lot. Why should a kid who just want to play ball have to waste another year at school. Not only does Mike Krzyzewski agree but also the NBA commissioner Adam Silver would want high school players to enter the league.
They have to put in work on and off the field of court. Three, the coaches and everybody else but the players are paid. These kids take time from their school work and personal things to get things done for their sports team and don’t get anything in return. “Nick Saban will make $11 million in the year of 2018 coaching the football team of Alabama University.” (www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6778847/college-athletes-deserve-paid.)
The player chose to risk it, and that risk gave a bad ending. But to some people, college is too much of a risk. For example, if someone gets into a college team, but then they get a injury that does some permanent damage, then the player’s future may be ruined, or if the player does get into the NBA/NFL, they are probably going to earn less than if they had never gotten injured. Also, to some people, college is a waste of time. If the person actually got into the NBA/NFL they could’ve earned a lot
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
High school coaches should not be required to give equal playing time to all players who make the team. Kids in society have been handed things their entire life. There has been little to no sense of accomplishment after earning a spot or position on a team. Spots should be earned by being the best at what someone does, not for pitty and for moral victories to make them feel good. “In high school, kids should understand playing time is earned.
How will they pay them, will it be fair? Each player should get the same amount of money not that much but a enough to get by. In conclusion, College basketball players should take the right steps with money. College basketball athletes should be paid because they put their bodies at risk at risk, they also don’t have money, and they skip classes.
If they have failing grades as well, the colleges are sending their students into the world without a real chance at becoming professional athletes, and without an actual education. In the end, they will be left unprepared for life. My first reason I believe athletes with bad grades shouldn’t play sports
