Why Did Europeans Explore The New World?

There were Spain, England, France, Russia and China expeditions that visited all parts of the Ocean including Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean basin. Europeans were not the only people who explored the larger world. However, what makes the Europeans go on a new world excursion to explore new lands? It is to claim new lands, to make their own empire stronger by obtaining natural resources and to develop new empires. As for the societies of Asia, Africa, and the Near East, why didn’t they join in the excursion to explore the New World? For the Europeans, they had the drive, motivation, and reason to explore the New World, whereas the societies of Asia, Africa, and the Near East did not have a reason and motive to explore or conquer lands, because they were abundant in natural resources. For example, in the beginning of 13th century, Portuguese explorers ventured to the open Atlantic Ocean to find resources. They eventually discovered the uninhabited Azores and Madeiras Islands that were inhabited by the indigenous people—Guanche. They sought gold and silver there. These were not enough; they then established plantations to make a profit. They found these islands were good for planting their sugar plantation and the cash crops due to their abundant harvest and the demand was high at that time. Therefore, Europeans development resulted in the establishment of global networks of trading, exchange and communication. The extensive exchange of plants and animals between the Old and New Worlds were also known as the Columbian Exchange. It had transformed economic activity in both worlds.
