Stalin came into power and maintained control through his economic policies, smart use of propaganda and killing those who disagreed with him. Stalin was a smart leader who knew how to rule effectively. Stalin enacted his first five year plan putting control of agriculture and production into the hands of the state. He took food from the farmers and gave it to the people for a very low price. This was to get other people to like him. With Stalin’s economic policy he was trying to get Russia up to speed with the rest of the world. He enacted five year plans which attempted to industrialize Russia. Ot focused on heavy industry such as coal, metal and oil. They created many factories to produce them. These factories were given extremely high production quotas which they could not meet. Also, the creation of many factories created more towns causing the food shortage to worsen. To solve this problem Stalin introduced collectivisation. He took control of all of the farms and redistributed the food to all of the people. This allowed the population to grow which then increased the workforce. …show more content…

Stalin rewrote history in many ways. He removed all mention of Trotsky’s role in the October revolution from books and encyclopedias. He also removed Trotsky from any pictures that there were. After purges he would remove the purged people from the history books and rescind any awards they had won. He removed their photos too. He also altered images of himself putting him closer to Lenin in photos to make it seem like they were close to each other. Stalin used propaganda to make him seem closer to Lenin than he actually was. In reality Lenin did not like him and said Trotsky would be a better
