When you hear the word “Lincoln” what is the first thought to come to your mind? Many would say a symbolization of honesty, integrity, freedom and even humanity. From 1861-1865 America was blessed with one of the greatest presidents we have ever had the 16th president of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln. At the time of his presidency the country was divided into two regions the north and south regions in which they both had withdrawn from the union. Lincoln led the United States to defeat the confederacy which followed the famous Emancipation Proclamation, which was put in place to abolish slavery.
Who do you think was our greatest president? Between Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson, I believe that Lincoln was the strongest. Lincoln managed to bring our nation through the Civil War, "one of the bloodiest and costliest in the Nation 's history" (Stone 6) with his "leaderhship, his commitment to values, and his strong moral fiber" (Stone 3). He used various strategies to survive the war, including having advisors from the opposite viewpoint to be aware of both sides of every issue. What Lincoln is remembered most for, however, is his efforts to abolish slavery, which are considered "his greatest contribution to the history of America" (Stone 5).
The election of President Lincoln had a huge affect on the civil war. Lincoln made numerous attempts to free slaves and to end the civil war. All of his attempts had helped in ways to end the civil war. His attempts included of the 13th amendment, the Emancipation Proclamation, his hard work on keeping the United States as one, and etc. Also because of the election of president Lincoln the 14th and 15th amendment was later on made as one of the Civil War Amendments.
