According to the dictionary, humanity is “the quality or state of being humane” (Merriam-Webster). Being humane says that we should be compassionate and generous. This is how we should be treating others, yet during times of war and strife it often seems that humanity is thrown out, leaving people in a primal state. This affects not only the soldiers actively taking part in the war effort but also those seemingly innocent bystanders. Jesus died for spreading the gospel, and Simon dies for trying to tell everyone about the truth of the beast. Simon’s death was very calm, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. “Softly, surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon 's dead body moved out toward the open sea”(Golding 119). This scene is like Jesus ascending to heaven after he rose from the dead. Simon is also moving to a better place after getting sacrificed.
The way Harry faced death in the final book of the series, is very similar to the way Jesus died. After a long battle, Harry goes willingly to his death, his only wish is to stop Voldemort once and for all and, by his sacrifice, save everyone else. However, after he dies, he finds himself being in a sort of heaven, facing the deceased Albus Dumbledore, who told him that Harry could choose between staying or going back and defeating Voldemort once and for all. While he was in this limbo, everyone else believed him dead: his enemies celebrated their triumph, his friends and followers mourned Harry’s death. In the end, Harry chose to be “resurrected” and killed Voldemort, therefore saving the wizarding world.
