How did the trojan war begin the downfall of troy as we know it now and how did the trojan horse, even though making them win the war with a siege, become one of the worst things the trojans could’ve done in the war, despite being the most celebrated part of it. The Trojan Horse helped the greeks win the war by seizing the city of troy, but it was not a smart decision on the part of the greek. The people of Troy were scared of the greeks from the start of the war, so this “gift” from the greeks made the people of Troy feel like the war was over. Helen however, still hadn’t been returned to Menelaus, and the Emperor of troy could’ve easily burned down this wooden horse, killing the men inside and possibly giving the trojans the win. Paris had a golden apple that he was going to reward to the “prettiest woman in the land” which ended up going to Aphrodite. After this, Paris went to Sparta to visit Menelaus and Helen and while Menelaus wasn’t in the room Paris grabbed Helen and took her back to Troy, where he lived. When Menelaus got back and realized that Helen was gone, he became enraged. Menelaus then convinced his brother Agamemnon to send his soldiers into the city of Troy to retrieve Helen and return her to Menelaus. So, Agamemnon sends people into Troy, trying to forcibly remove Helen, but ultimately this fails. So, the Greeks decide to take Chyseis from her father, Chryses. In reaction to this, Apollo, the god of “divine distance” sent a plague over the Greek Soldiers. Achilles then tells Agamemnon to return Chyseis to her father to end the plague. To which Agamemnon listens and made Odysseus return Chyseis. In return, however, Agamemnon “steals” Achilles' maiden for revenge in him having to return Chryses. This enrages Achilles and causes him to then leave the greeks. Menelaus then finds Paris after invading troy and fights Paris. During this ordeal, however, Aphrodite saves Paris.
