In regards to the fall of the Han and Roman empires, both were similar in that they fell victim to internal government decay, but different in that Rome fell to foreign invasions, while Han suffered from rebellions of their own people. The Han and Roman empires were similar in their fall in that they both suffered from internal decay, specifically of their governments. In the Han empire, land distribution problems that were originally sought to be fixed by the “Socialist emperor” Wang Mang allowed large landowners to become even more influential than they previously were.

Technology may not seem like it made a huge impact on Western Expansion, but it in fact did. Without the creation and development of railroads, canals and bridges, expansion would have progressed a lot slower and not nearly as efficiently. Railroads allowed farmers to trade crops into the valley and passed the Appalachian’s which were previously off limits due to distance and terrain. Canals are water pathways connecting two bodies of water through a large piece of land. They allowed trade ships to have a shortcut for easier travel on trade voyages.
The early modern era was a time when empires thrived across the globe. The Western Europeans were not the only ones to construct successful empires either. The Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman empires added to this phenomenon. Although these empires share many similarities, they also have their differences. During the time, 1450 CE -1750 CE, European empires in the Americas and their Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman counterparts are similar in that they all thrived and united diverse peoples and different in that European empires developed something entirely new, an interacting Atlantic World, while the other empires continued older patterns of historical development.
New Imperialism: Economically Driven In the late nineteen century, a new imperialism emerged in Britain and the rest of the world. This New Imperialism was characterized by the rapid growth in the territories controlled by the British and other countries around the world. For Britain, they acquired the majority of their new territory by participating in the ‘scramble for Africa’.
The land we American's call, the United States, is defined by different events that happened during the Western Expansion. The Western Expansion began with Thomas Jefferson’s purchasing the territory of Louisiana in 1803. Many wars, treaties, and Acts would happen during the Expansion to be successful in forming the modern United States. Gold rushes during this time would increase settlements and the population in western territories. The Westward Expansion would define the land borders of the modern U.S., promote land ownership and develop the railway system in the continental U.S.
Why Imperialism Was Not Justified Many Americans and Europeans believe that there was many good reasons for imperialism. These people think this because they were the ones that benefited from it. In imperialism, the stronger countries took over the weaker countries and used them for their resources which improved their economy. Most also claim that they helped the countries they were imperializing, but the Europeans were actually hurting them. This led to the natives rebelling which arguably led to World War 1 later on.
The Europeans had the advancement of guns, horses, and navigation. The mastery of gunpowder technology was crucial for the European conquests. Gunpowder weapons allowed small numbers of Europeans to conqueror and win wars in far away lands. With guns, European conquerors were able to kill their enemies and be within
History takes place because changes occur throughout both past as well as current civilizations. Much of the past has succumbed to change because of an apparent impersonal force, war. Through war, many advances arise allowing new civilizations to begin as well as old civilizations to fall. Over the course of several millennia, war has brought both beginnings as well as ends to several dynasties in China as well as shifts in religion across Islam. War in all civilizations has been an important driving factor for conquest as well as a gain in wealth.
Many ancient empires have risen and fallen throughout history. One of the most dominant empires was the Incan empire. The Inca empire spread across parts of present-day Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Argentina, and Ecuador. It is about 2,500 miles down the western coast of South America. The culture of the Inca was significantly affected by the regions that they lived in.
Few substances in history have had as profound an effect on human history as gunpowder... and its discovery was an accident! Ancient alchemists in China spent centuries trying to discover an elixir of life that would render the user immortal. One important ingredient in many of the failed elixirs was saltpeter, also known as potassium nitrate. During the Tang Dynasty, around 850 A.D., an enterprising alchemist (whose name has been lost to history) mixed 75 parts saltpeter with 15 parts charcoal and 10 parts sulfur.
In the 19th century imperialism was an important part of building European empires. The four major motives for imperialism are economic, strategic, religious and political. These motives helped great empires expand their territory and brought new cultures and languages to both the colonised countries and the countries colonising them. European countries such as Britain and France would use their colonies in Africa for economic gain. They would be able to exploit the country’s natural resources and bring them back to the “mother country” to sell and use.
“As imperial powers consolidated their hold on foreign lands, colonial administrators reorganized subject societies so they would become efficient suppliers of timber, rubber…” (931). The hold of trading and the more raw materials that are valued led to have more control on power over lands, because you have things that other nations want which makes it great for receiving land. Political dominance was a great deal to have, especially to claim land for growing
