The first and only queen of Hawaii, Queen Liliuokalani proposed removing the property owning qualifications for voting. In 1893, not only did John L. Stevens and his marines overthrow Liliuokalani, however, she became the queen after her brother’s death, also a king. She believed in a Hawaii for Hawaiians.
