World War One was a war between the major nations of the world; the allies and the central power, from 1914 to 1918. The United States first remained neutral by maintaining a policy of isolation which avoided any involvement in European affairs. However, the United States joined WWI in April 1917 and they played an important role in this war. So why did the U.S. abandoned their neutrality and enters WWI against the central powers? It was said that U.S was forced to war, by several factors which make them more and more vulnerable in entering the war. This includes the policies of Germany during the war which makes the U.S. angry. The use of unrestricted submarine warfare and breaking of the Sussex Pledge which stir up the need of joining the war in the public of U.S. where President Woodrow Wilson also reacted furiously. Added by the Zimmermann Telegram, a German telegram by Arthur Zimmermann, which suggested a Mexican-German alliance, which made the Americans even more aggravated. on May 4th 1916 before the U.S entered WWI to alter the German policy of unrestricted submarine warfare and stop indiscriminate sinking of non-military ships during WWI. The Sussex Pledge was a promise to not sink any passenger ships and merchant ships would not be sunk until the presence of weapons and been established and provisions for the safety of the passengers and crew are made. Unfortunately, on 1st of February 1917, Germany broke the Sussex Pledge. They resumed the unrestricted submarine warfare and German U-boats began to attack American ships in the North Atlantic. This actions contributed heavily on making the U.S to enter war against
