How Did The Cold War Start?

As World War II came to the end the alliance of the USSR and USA also started to come to an end. The USSR believed in communism and wanted capitalism to be destroyed. The U.S. strongly disagreed with the Soviets and tension arose between the two. The U.S. started to keep secrets of atomic and nuclear bombs from the Soviets which caused a lack of trust between the two. With the U.S. and USSR being allies during World War II changed very quickly when USSR was trying to spread communism. With the USSR trying to destroy capitalism the Fulton Speech, Marshall Plan, and nuclear secrets caused tension between the two. Stalin's refusal to have free election angered the United States. Truman was all about freedom and did not agree with Stalin on not having free election and …show more content…

The USSR did this by creating the berlin wall that seperated Germany. United States and Britain both strongly disagreed with Stalin because they believed that the USSR was just tightening their grip on Eastern Germany. They wanted to protect democracy, and help Germany recover. To help out Eastern Germany the U.S. created the Marshall Plan. The U.S. sent $13 billion dollars which is worth $140 billion in 2017 dollars. The U.S. would fly over Western Germany and drop supplies to them. The soviets reaction to the Marshall Plan was a stony silence.
The soviets did not want to attack the U.S. because they had the fear of nuclear weapons. One of the big reason the USSR did not trust the U.S. was because the U.S. would not tell them about their nuclear weapons. They saw what the U.S. did to Japan with the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This scared Stalin in that the U.S. would do the same to the USSR. They were scared that there was an even bigger bomb that was nuclear that the U.S.
