Cause of the Cold War Because of a nation's divining of government the berlin wall was made, separating Germany right down the middle; separating those who opposed Communism to the east, and those who oppose Capitalism in the west. How did the Cold War begin, what “weapons” were used to fight this war? I believe that communism fighting for control over capitalism, “aiding” other countries with money/weapons, and the separation of nations. Communism trying to overrule and diminish the use of capitalism as a government. It started with Germany being divided into two sects, half the countries for communism the other half opposed, then the construction of the berlin was underway (Doc 1). The ruler of the Soviet Union made a speech opposing capitalism, saying the war against communism was all just a huge publicity stunt so they had a reason to increase their military, while actually it was a reason to try and gain more power (Doc 6). If they pledged allegiance to their government type then they would grant them aid with money, blankets, weapons, and etc. For example, the U.S. wanted to “help” Turkey and Greece by giving them 400 million dollars worth of supplies (Doc 2). The Soviet Union was helping out Cuba by giving them massive amounts of long ranged missiles that made the U.S. and many countries feeling threatened (Doc 8). The U.S. asked for the Soviet Union to revoke their missiles placed in Cuba, and because of a declaration of peace done on October 27, 1962; the Soviet Union had no problem removing the missiles from Cuba (Doc 9). Because of the aiding that the U.S. and the Soviet Union, many countries received weapons, money, or some kind of aid if they joined the same government type, this only increased the severity of the Cold
