In the United States alone, there have been over 387 school shootings since 1992.(Strange opening sentence for the topic) Cellphones are used in today’s society for a lot more than talking, texting, and playing games on. Technology is a reliable sense of communication, in which the majority of society uses and depends on in everyday life. Students can use cellphones for not only their academic requirements, but for their interscholastic athletics, as well. Cellphones can also be used in case of an emergency while on school property. Permitting students to have cellphones in their possession during school hours teaches them respect, independence, and responsibility. If students were able to enjoy school rather than dread it, more of them would want to participate in learning and attending school. “One could say that having a cellphone in school could cause students to cheat, but even as teens advance their electronic cheating strategies, educators are beginning to fight back with their own anti-cheating technologies, such as text-matching software, biometric equipment, virtual students, and cheat-proof tests, experts say”(Miners). A lot of students do cheat, which is a valid statement, but educators are creating software’s (should be software, not software’s. Software can be both singular and plural) to prevent this from happening. “1 in 3 children use their devices to complete homework and to learn better” (Nielsen). More students use their devices to help them get a better understanding of their work, rather than to cheat. The use of technology progresses worldwide on a daily basis, if individuals do not keep up with it they will fall behind other countries. Allowing students to have cellphones while in school will permit them to excel with technology, learn responsibility and respect for others, as well as, give(comma not needed here) them a sense of security should an emergency arise.
