In this debate paper, the topic of why inmates deserve civil rights and what negative outcomes can result in if inmates weren’t treated in a humane way. Every human citizen has civil rights, which includes inmates. Inmates are put in prison and are looked down upon by society because of the crimes that have been committed. It wouldn’t help an inmate to improve if they aren’t being treated with the respect and have the basic rights that they deserve. Inmates that do not receive the respect they deserve will not get the idea of how to respect others. Although crimes have been committed, it’s not too late to change the behavior of inmates. Principles are for citizens to live and to be
treated with respect, fairness and equality. Without basic principles, citizens would live their
lives in fear of discrimination and interference from others. Although inmates have some rights
revoked, such as restriction of physical freedom, they still deserve to be treated in a humane way.
Each individual inmate has committed a different level of crime and some inmates being
imprisoned could be framed for someone else’s wrongdoing therefore, it would not be fair for
that inmate to not have civil rights when that person did not do anything.
Many people seem to have very misleading views of the type of people who end up in
prison, such as how they got there and the legitimacy of the system that put them there. But
