With a happy smile and a warm greeting, Mr Bridgeman my mentor teacher welcomes every student and parent’s to his year 3 graders classroom at the start of the day. His students know what the daily routine is and what is expected of them when they get to class. Mr Bridgeman would always be strategic and engage in one-to-one interactions with children, families and all other teachers within the school and community. He would get down on the children’s level and communicate face-to-face with them; this created a positive and trusting relationship between Mr Bridgeman and the students. According to “The Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being and Becoming, 2009)”, it describes that families are the children’s most influential role models and by creating a homely natural environment while using positive communication will allow all children and families to feel like they are: valued and respected, build a sense of belonging, create trust, promote open honest communication and model positive communication styles. Henniger, (2013) states that “When families and the educator work together communicating significant information about the child’s progress, interests, needs, family backgrounds and values improve the child’s learning performance and leads to increased achievement.”(pp. 77) As children grow and develop they start to develop attachments to their primary caregiver, this is when the educator must respond to the children with interest, sensitivity and an enthusiastic attitude, so the children will begin to build a sense of trust and feel secure with the educator. Mr Bridgeman has created a supportive active learning environment where the community and families are actively involved within the schools learning program, this has endorsed the children to become intrinsically motivated to be involved in all activities and to take responsibility for their own learning, personal regulations and contributions to the social
