In Harm de Blij’s non-fictional novel, Why Geography Maters: More Than Ever, he expressed his point that many people in America today ignorant towards Global Geography. In this book he writes about many different world events and topics that are related to geography. From over- populated India, to Russia’s Fall of being a superpower after the Cold War with the United States. Another major point is the lack of geography classes (in the United States) in high school, and colleges that are available. “There’s no denying it: for all its putative importance, geography as a school subject and as a university discipline in the United States is, to put it mildly, underrepresented.” (Why Geography Matters: More than Ever, Page 19) What Harm de Blij …show more content…

The authors purpose for writing this book is to try to help the reader understand why geography is important, by gaining some basic background knowledge over geography. And hopefully inspire the reader to keep learning about world and human geography. I think this book has very good topics about the world and how it all affects us. After reading the book I definitely want to learn more about geography. But some parts of the book can be boring, but all in all I think Why Geography Matters: More Than Ever is a very effective book. Our world is changing every day, new countries are being added, civil wars are being fought, and the Earth’s population is on a steady rise every day. “Not only is our world ever more competitive: It is also changing at an ever faster pace.” (Page 3) Why geography matters more than ever before, is because the world and humans is at a very curtail phase. New technology is being created every day. Like GPS (Global Positioning Systems). I think that GPS is very important it helps geographers map the locations of new discoveries and the common person is able to reach destinations with ease. But also people rely too much on GPS to guide them across cities
