3 Reasons Why I Chose to go Into Visual Communications
Growing up as a child, I always thought the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” was so far beyond me. For some kids it may have been a doctor, a teacher or an Astronaut; but if you were me you wanted to work at a Subway restaurant. When High school hit the question then turned into “what are you going to college for?” Although few knew, typically our answer would be “I have no idea!” When college came, things became real- it was time for me to decide. It wasn’t until after my first year of college is when I realized I wanted to go into Visual Communications (often referred as “Vis Com”). So here are a few reasons why I decided to go pursue a degree in Visual Communications.
1. It’s very broad.

The classes required range from Photography, Graphic Design, and Drawing, and Color Theory, to Applied Social Media, Intro to Communications, Advertising, and Principles of Marketing, and Writing for the Media. All of which can prepare you for a very broad life post college. With this you can be an Event Planner, freelance graphic design and photography, and your skills can assist in Advertising, and Public Relation in the business world!
2. It’s in high demand:
With technology growing rapidly every single day, websites, app icons, need to be designed. Big companies and small business are using social media more and more for marketing purposes, they need logos, business cards, brochures, videography, photography, and someone who knows social media marketing well using their writing and communication skills. All the way across the board, having a degree in Visual Communication is very much necessary in today’s tech filled world.
3. You work with something new
