Science today is way more advanced than back in 650 B.C.E. and we have tools and scientists that explain the natural phenomena that we still deal with today. The Greeks however had a very different way of explaining these natural phenomena. The Greeks used Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, and their gods to explain these phenomena for them. Yan covers these phenomena like Earthquakes which were previously thought to had been caused by the sea god, Poseidon, or that storms were caused by Zeus and that the Sun came up everyday thanks to Helios. Which today are now proved through orbit of the Earth and low and high air pressure.
In the term paper, I am going to write about the Greek gods. I am writing about this topic because I take Latin, and the gods have always been an interesting topic to me. I am going to investigate what they were needed for, and how they became to be the gods they are now. Once I answer these questions, I will be able to answer the question on why the Greek gods were so important.
What exactly are myths? What are their purposes? According to dictionary.com, myths are defined as traditional or legendary stories that include some type of being or hero or event, concerning the early history of people or explaining some social or natural phenomenon. This definition sounds pretty complicated, however all it’s saying is that myths are fake stories but they usually have some big lesson behind them to teach those who are listening or reading them. Myths are usually used in stories to teach the readers some sort of lesson.
As Armstrong explains, “mythology was therefore designed to help us to cope with the problematic human predicament. It helped people to find their place in the world and their true orientation” (6). The idea of myths was created to teach humans proper behavior that fit with their ideal society, as well as help people live in peace with one another. They also taught valuable lessons on how not to live since people didn 't know where they come from and where they belong. We invented stories by using gods, humans and magical creatures to explain something that happens in nature.
Mythology for many years has been seen as folktales and stories that help entertain people. In the modern world the influence of ancient mythology has been very impactful on the entertainment world, as it has allowed for the creation of fictional characters and films that have brightened millions of people's lives. The influence of these stories in ancient times may rival those of the modern world because of their vast influence on the world as it has affected many parts of it. The understanding of these topics is greatly led by the study of mythology which has given insight into human nature , and emotions of people as they often depict human experiences.
Mythology is the collection of myths that denotes commonly cultural and religious beliefs of ancient human beings. The elements of it were usually the involvement of god, goddess and heroes. In addition, it was based on a man’s desire, beliefs and ideas. It also told the natural occurrence and its main purpose was to teach people moral lessons. One of the example of Greek mythology is the divine hero of ancient Greece his name was Heracles, but people knew him as Hercules.

However, there are many other ways Greek Mythology is used in modern culture the last way i 'll be talking about is in plays. Greek mythology is a person favorite thing to research about because the things like goddesses,monsters, places. In greek mythology zeus is the youngest son that cronus and rhea have, he was the supreme ruler olympics and the pantheon of gods, and originally worshiped as a weather god by greek tribes. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme the ruler of gods, as well as lord of the sky and rain. Zeus the deity of the universe, ruler of the skies and earth,zeus is important to greek mythology, because he was the god of the sky and the ruler of olympian gods.
Greek mythology can be viewed as a mirror to the ancient Greek civilization. Ancient Greek myths and legends often reflected how the Greeks saw themselves. Myths were used by Greeks to make justifications of every existing aspect of earth as well as their own society. In myths, Greek gods & heroes often represented key aspects of the human civilization. From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.
Myths are a medium by which people explain the world around them to younger generations. These myths generally explain how the world was formed and came to be. However, the teachings of each myth can be varied based on where they originated. If the myth came from a polytheistic culture, the myth may be more focus on the nature and ecological lessons.

There is a strong relationship between mythology and religion, as both are very much faith driven. In the example of Greek mythology, there are many Gods and Goddesses, while in modern Christianity there is only one God, but the premise is still the same. In Christianity, people place their faith in God and let his will guide them throughout the trials and tribulations of their life, the same could be said of mythology, as to again use the Greeks as an example, people placed their faith in the Gods and Goddesses and let their actions be guided as such. The difference in Christianity and mythology in today’s time is that religion is thought to be fact, while mythology is believed to be fiction.
This essay will discuss the origin of Ancient Egyptian Mythology and its impact of the social aspects of Egyptian life, while also showing how it is historically significant. Ancient Egyptian Mythology had a significant impact on the way the Egyptians thought and lived. Their religion and culture was all based on the belief of the mythology.
