Why Have Religious And Spiritual Services Important For Students At Catholic University?

One similarity between all of the institutions was that each had an office or space for their religious and spiritual services to operate out of with a staff. Although some of the Christian based institutions may have had more complex organizational structures and more spelled out affiliations to religion all five of the institutions had a foundation for services. Another commonality was the importance each of the institutions put on providing these services for all students on their campuses. When speaking with the staff member at Catholic University she said that “I think being about college is such a developmental time and they are figuring out who they are they don’t claim it as their own and exploring that while in college it is another aspect that they …show more content…

Unfortunately, many student leaders struggle to find a sense of moral compass and drive to achieve anything they might desire as little as obtaining their diploma or large as bringing social change to a struggling community. Not only does spirituality help the individual students but it can also benefit the university by helping completion and improving retention rates. Many students drop out or transfer because a feeling of defeat, no support from home, or overwhelmed by the many changes and challenges of a becoming an independent young adult. Student affairs professionals can obtain the knowledge and skills to help ensure students have an equal opportunity to flourish academically, personally, and professionally during their collegiate experience and beyond. Using student development theories as a backbone when developing religious services, spaces and programming can help students explore or practice their religious beliefs, find a sense of moral compass and drive to achieve anything they might desire as little as obtaining their diploma or as large as bringing social change to a struggling
