Why I Chose College Essay

As young adults, graduating high school and entering the “real world” we are faced with numerous decisions about our future. The most important decision in this time period is choosing where we want to spend the next four years, furthering our education and getting a degree. I thought that I knew who I was and what I wanted when applying to college. My idea was to take a risk, so I chose to go to Penn State, University Park. Penn State was the largest, furthest school on my list of colleges. Since coming here I have meet some amazing people, I learned how to be an independent, productive student, but most of all I learned a lot about myself and what I really want for my college experience. I have always wanted go into the Marketing field of business. My strengths lie in my ability to lead, think outside the box and never give up when faced with a challenge. My first business class was a lecture hall seating six hundred people not including the vast amount of people that had to sit in the isles because there were no seats left. It turned out that three out of five of my courses were all this size. My excitement to learn about business and get hands on experiences quickly faded. It is very easy to feel lost in a school with over 40,000 students. I thought when applying to college that I wanted to be in a setting where I did not know anyone, but coming from a small town It was hard to get comfortable with the idea that I may not see a familiar face my entire day. I tried to make myself more at home by involving myself in clubs but it was close to impossible to make this school feel smaller. Living in New Jersey, then attending Penn State I often felt isolated. Penn State campus is located in the middle of Pennsylvania with very little surrounding it. Since there is not much around, it is hard to take a break from the college area without making the four hour drive
