Essay 2 There are countless reasons why a wife makes life so much easier. In the article, “Why I Want a Wife” by Judy Brady she expresses all the reasons why someone would want a wife. All the reasons Brady list is based off the expectations men set for women. Brady made a very effective article considering her stern tone and language. I will explain why I believe “Why I Want a Wife” is a good article due to her captivating title, stern tone, conversational language, the authority Brady has, and my personal opinion. The first thing that captures your attention about the article is the title. Brady was able to capture the attention of male and female, which broadens her audience. This is how someone will feel the connection to what you are presenting. The language Brady decides to use is conversational language. This makes the article a lot more effective. Mainly because it still appeals to a large audience. She does not use scholarly language that may single out a portion of her intended audience. Her conversational language helps the essay flow smoothly. It is just one basic sentence flowing to the next. The language also helps you read “Why I Want a Wife” smoothly. There are not words or complex ideas that may cause the reader to stop due to not understanding. Along with her article using conversational language, Brady uses very direct language. Filler words were not used in this article. With every idea proposed, the author made sure it was direct and clear. For example, “I want a wife who is sensitive to my sexual needs, a wife who makes love passionately and eagerly when I feel like it, a wife who makes sure that I am satisfied” (Brady). A lot of authors could have hinted at an idea about this or simply not even mention it. Brady is different. This quote shows the type of writer she is.
